Martina Kissová (Slovak Republic)
Although her family is addicted to volleyball, it was love at first sight when Martina Kissova went to her first basketball practice

It's been a bitter-sweet first few days at the U20 European Championship Women for Martina Kissova and we caught up with the influential Slovak Republic forward for a FIBAEurope.com Half-Court Press.

Having suffered the agony of both a gut-wrenching overtime loss against Serbia and an injury, the Good Angels Kosice player had to sit out the game against Russia but was able to cheer her team-mates to a fantastic victory.

FE.com: What's your first basketball memory?
Martina Kissova: My first basketball practice with all the girls running around and me sitting in the corner and crying. Love at first sight!

Why did you want to become a basketball player?
During my childhood, I tried tennis, swimming and gymnastics. But, I wanted to be part of a team so I started to play basketball.

If you were at the Olympics but not as a basketball player, which other sport do you think it would be fun to win a gold medal in?
Everybody from my family used to play volleyball and I also love this game, so probably it would be volleyball.

What would be a perfect weekend for you if money was not a problem?
I would take my family to some exotic destination where we could relax without worries and problems.

If you could only listen to one song again for the rest of your life what would it be?
I´m sure it would be the song by Adele, 'Set fire to the rain'.

What is your most valuable personal item/possession?
The best things in life aren't things, so it´s my family and friends.

If you didn't play basketball and you could do any other job - what would it be?
I have always wanted to become a lawyer.

What are the best three things about being from or living in Slovak Republic?
Beautiful nature, nice people and 'Bryndzové halušky'- our national food.

Which Slovak Republic senior team player do you admire the most and why?
I admire Lucia Kupcikova, my team-mate from Good Angels Kosice, because of her versatility and intelligence as a player.

What does the Slovak Republic reaching the Final Round of Eurobasket Women in France next summer mean for women's basketball in your country?
It means a lot for our country, because reaching the Finals with the young and potential filled team we have is a success. I hope we are going to play good when we get there.

Who is the most sensible of your team-mates and who is the craziest and why?
The craziest one is certainly Marta Palenikova, because she always comes up with crazy activities and games. The only one, who is sensible in our national team is assistant coach Juraj 'Ďuďo' Suja - ha ha!

Can you cook? If you were cooking a meal for your coach what would it be?
I like chicken a lot and I can prepare it in many ways. I would prepare chicken with mustard for my coach.

What's your best quality as a player and as a person and what is the worst?
As a player, I can use mismatch situations with my height. My weakness, which I want to work on, are my shooting skills. And as a person, I am responsible and when I do something I always do it 100%. But on the other side, I am stubborn way too much.

What is the best basketball game you have played in and why?
I hope the best one is just coming.

What are your favourite other sports and which teams/players do you follow?
I like volleyball, tennis and swimming. The only player I follow is Roger Federer.

What are the most important things for a basketball player to have?
Intelligence, courage, audacity and speed are the most important things alongside mentality.

There's only two seconds on the shot clock, do you pass or shoot?
It is up to the situation. If my team-mate has better position, I am going to pass it although I am not afraid to take responsibility for the last shot.
