U20 Women Group F
|Renee Busch scored 12 points and collected 12 boards as Great Britain stunned previously unbeaten France|
Great Britain knocked off previously unbeaten France to boost their hopes of progressing from the qualifying round at their first U20 European Championship Women.
Britain, competing in Division A for the first time after achieving promotion last summer, had their noses in front for most of the way and pulled clear at the end as France mis-fired.
The teams combined for just 10 points - 6-4 in Britain's favour - in the second quarter but the low scoring game this time suited Damian Jennings' team, who had lost a similar game to Italy the day before.
France had closed back to within two, 36-34, with 2:21 to go in the third quarter, but then saw Britain respond with seven straight points - highlighted by Renee Busch's three-pointer - to take a 43-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
The lead bulged to 11, 49-38, on Deanne Hayward's free throw midway through the period, and although France would get back to within six 70 seconds from time, 56-50 on Clementine Samson's three-pointer, Britain finished on a 6-0 run to secure the win.
Ella Clark scored 16 points for Britain while Busch added 12.
Hhadydia Minte led France with 14 and Kelly Corre added 10. France managed just two-of-14 shooting (14.2%) from three-point range.
