|Alina Iagupova has put up incredible numbers so far, averaging 26.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists|
There was joy for Ukraine in the Second Round of the U20 European Championship Women after they fought off a late charge by Russia to take a famous 68-62 victory and take themselves to the brink of a Quarter-Final place in Debrecen.
Whilst Alina Iagupova finished with a monstrous double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds, it was a super team display by Ukraine which eventually got them over the line after Russia threatened to spoil the party with a late show.
Not least, a wonderful cameo from Lyudmyla Naumenko who added 11 highly efficient points to help her team take the win.
Ukraine enjoyed the better of the opening quarter to move themselves 20-17 ahead but by the time they left the court at the break, it was Russia who had nudged ahead by a point.
It was during the third period when Ukraine really made their move at both ends of the floor, outscoring Russia 22-9 to achieve a real stranglehold on the game.
They probably expected a response from the stunned Russian players and so it proved as they tried to amend their disappointing third quarter.
A free-throw by Maria Myasnikova brought Russia to within four points with just over three minutes to play, but it was as close as they would get with another four points in the closing minutes by Iagupova sealing the win for Ukraine.
The result also means Turkey is confirmed as the winners of Group F whilst everyone else will fight it out for the other three Quarter-Final spots on what promises to be a thrilling final day of Second Round action.
