Ance Aizsila was the third Latvian scorer in double figures, contributing 12 points and four assists
Latvia bounced back from their opening day loss to secure a first victory at the U20 European Championship Women but it was a nerve-jangling experience as they survived a late Belarus charge to ride out narrow 67-64 winners.
This Group A clash was a certainly a roller-coaster of emotion for both teams and especially for Belarus forward Maryia Papova who finished on the losing team but was outstanding with a monstrous 22 points and 17 rebounds.
However in Dita Rozenberga, Latvia also had someone who racked up an impressive double-double, her 18 points and 11 rebounds fundamental to this first success.
The first half was keenly contested and it was only a one-shot game at the break, Latvia 33-30 ahead.
But, by early in the final quarter, they had opened up a double-digit lead and it looked as if Belarus were done and dusted.
However they suddenly began to rally during the closing minutes and it set up a thrilling climax as they threatened to force overtime.
Papova brought her team to within just two points at 66-64 with only a minute left on the game clock, but it wasn't to be as Latvia survived - albeit only just.
Paila Tomsone supported the main effort of Rozenberga with an excellent 15 points and nine rebounds.
