|Queralt Casas stood out in a Spanish team that had all 12 players scoring|
Defending champions Spain showed they are in no mood to relinquish their title after stepping out at the U20 European Championship Women in Debrecen and sweeping aside Belarus 73-39 in their Group A opener.
Led by a typically impressive all-action performance by last year's MVP Queralt Casas, Spain was rampant from tip to buzzer to hand Anna Caula a first victory as head coach.
Casas was at the heart of everything that was good about Spain and her contribution of 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks told the story of just how important she will be in their bid to get back to the top of the podium.
Spain was on the front foot right from the outset, leaving Belarus trailing in their wake with a devastating opening five minutes. They breezed into a 13-0 lead as their opponent began to worry where the first basket might come from.
Eventually Maryia Papova got her team rolling but it made little difference as Spain kept their foot on the accelerator and defensively were very much on top of their game.
If Belarus thought the first ten minutes were tough by scoring only nine points, they could only manage five during the second half meaning the game was well and truly over by the interval with Spain 44-14 ahead.
